Webtacular World Issue # 102, November 15, 2015

Greetings Webtaculators. I have no pithy comments for this week – I’m still trying to wrap my mind around what happened in Paris. On to the news.

STORY OF THE WEEK (long read)
What: Je Suis Paris
Why: Because the terrorist attack in Paris on Friday was horrific. It will inevitably impact global politics in a far reaching way, from immigration issues to the war with ISIS. Those who carried out the attack did absolutely nothing to further their cause, except unite an entire continent against them. I am not looking forward to finding out the outcome.

EDUCATION THING OF THE WEEK (4 min. read)
What: The Protest Of College Students
Why: Because various circumstances around the country (Missouri, Claremont McKenna, and Yale, to name a few)  have lead to the most collective action by students since the Occupy Wall St. movement. Many people are not happy with how students have been going about protesting.

MOVIE THING OF THE WEEK (4 min. read)
What: Shia Watching Shia
Why: Because Shia LaBeouf is making more of a name for himself by doing odd performance art  (here, here, and here) rather than acting.

MUSIC THING OF THE WEEK (20 min. read)
What: Real Rock And Roll
Why: Because Oasis was the soundtrack of 4th grade for me, so its good to see how my idols turned out.

LANGUAGE THING OF THE WEEK (8 min read)

Webtacular World Issue # 101, November 8, 2015

Greetings Webtaculators! Do any of you have any good pork recipes? I somehow managed to come into possession of 15 or so pounds of it, (including the feet!), so any suggestions would be welcome. On to the news.

STORY OF THE WEEK (3 min. read)
What: No One Votes In Off Years
Why: Because local politics probably have a bigger impact on your daily life than you realize. No weed for Ohio, Airbnb is taking over SF, and Kentucky, well, is Kentucky.

LAW THING OF THE WEEK (10 min. read)
What: God As Law
Why: Because religion still has quite a bit of say in determining the outcome of certain cases.

TECH THING OF THE WEEK ()
What: Data Caps Come To Broadband
Why: Because although 300 GB seems like a lot of data, think about the fact that a single TV episode is 1.5GB, a video game is 25GB, and streaming audio is about 100MB per hour. Multiply that by 4 people in a family, and it’s not that hard to hit that limit.

SPORTS THING OF THE WEEK (5 min. read)
What: The Fall Of Kobe
Why: Because Kobe Bryant, formerly one of the best basketball players to ever play the game, is having quite a bad start to the season. Turns out we’re all human.

Why: Because CNBC’s presentation of the Republican Presidential Candidate Debate was atrocious. However, some of the questions deemed “unfair” might not have been.
