Greetings Webtaculators! This is the view from my room for the week:Sometimes working for the state has occasional benefits. Unfortunately, I get to spend the majority of my time in San Diego sitting in a conference room learning about utility ratemaking instead of enjoying this view. Oh well. On to the news.
STORY OF THE WEEK (3 min. read)
What: A Visit Worth More Than Words
Why: Because even though the United States and Japan have been allies and business partners for the better part of six decades, the atrocity that marked the end of one of the most deadly periods of human history has never been directly addressed until now.
ECONOMIC THING OF THE WEEK (4 min. read)
What: Can’t Stop Won’t Stop
Why: Because at this rate, my dead corpse will somehow be working off some sort of debt.
LAW THING OF THE WEEK (3 min. read)
What: Ross Says The Law Is Fine, Dave
Why: Because this is why I’m glad I am not a lawyer.
SCIENCE THING OF THE WEEK (5 min. read)
What: Well, You See Bobby, When Two Telco’s Love Each Other Very Much…
Why: Because a lot of the outages caused by the merging of Verizon and Frontier caused problems to the exact people that were fighting to make it not happen.
SPORTS THING OF THE WEEK (5 min. read)
What: MVP Part II
Why: Because Curry is a transformative force in the world of basketball, and his game 4 performance against the Blazers was the stuff of legends.
MOVIE THING OF THE WEEK (9 min. look)
What: How To Edit
Why: Because editing is one of the most important aspects of movies (and other work) that is as important as the work itself.
MUSIC THING OF THE WEEK (4 min. listen)
What: Media Integration
Why: Because it’s helpful that one of my favorite bands of this generation is writing music for video games. That officially makes it art, right?
NEWS THING OF THE WEEK (8 min. read)
What: The Most Trusted Name In Newsfeed
Why: Because for all the calls of suppression and censorship, Facebook is not a “news” provider or government entity, and therefore they can do whatever they want.
VIDEO GAME THING OF THE WEEK (9 min. watch)
What: Isn’t That Old?
Why: Because those were the first words out of my fiance’s mouth when asking why I was playing a game called Doom in 2016. For those of you who don’t know the first Doom came out in 1993, and was at one point the most installed piece of software in the world (yes, ahead of Windows).
THING YOU SHOULD GET BRIAN OF THE WEEK
What: Some Of This 19% Growth (that The Toast wasn’t able to get)
Why: Because Brian deserves it.
